Musical Magic

Whether you’re new to the area or have been a resident for decades, chances are you’ve heard of the Vic Juba Community Theatre (Vic Juba). Affectionately known as “The Vic”, this stunning 550-seat community theatre was named in honour of beloved Lloydminster resident Mr. Vic Juba. The theatre hosts hundreds of events a year including musical performances, adult and children’s threatre, ballet, concerts, spoken word events (they’re the proud host of Lloydminster’s annual PechaKucha night), and more.

If you’re searching for lessons so you can learn to jam yourself, you’re in luck! Lloydminster offers several options for private music lessons from talented local musicians, or through Lakeland College’s Performing Arts Continuing Education program. Another site to check out is Sew in Tune, a locally owned boutique that sells, you guessed it, sewing machines and musical instruments! They often stock a range of gently used instruments, so they’re worth checking into if you’re starting out and have a limited budget.

For those seeking a great night of live tunes, check out The Root Bistro. This bustling downtown location is home to an ever-changing roster of musical and artistic talent. Popular nights include themed jazz performances, Open Mic Night, and a slew of travelling bands, soloists, and musicians perfecting their craft as they travel across the country. For the latest listings, check their website. In addition to The Root Bistro, Fionn Mac Cool’s, Bennigan’s Irish Pub, and Neighbors Pub will feature live performances from time to time. Be sure to call ahead and see who’s on set.

Lloydminster Exhibition Grounds (Lloyd Exh) plays host to numerous musical concerts and performances each year. One of the most popular and well-attended events are the outdoor concerts hosted in conjunction with Colonial Days Fair each July. Head to the grandstand with your friends, sip a cool beverage, and listen to the sound of the music as you enjoy a sweet summer night! Check our Events & Festivals page for more details on a few of the special events hosted each year at the Lloyd Exh.
