How Lloydminster Came Together
The Lloydminster area was first settled by the Barr Colonists: in 1903. When the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan were established in 1905, with the Fourth Meridian shuttling through as the dividing line between the two, Lloydminster was essentially split in half. This created quite a dilemma! Therefore, the two unique communities needed to be established each to themselves. Lloydminster, Alberta was declared a village in July 1906, while Lloydminster, Saskatchewan was established as a town in April 1907. After the devastating fire of 1929, Lloydminster again merged into one community, formally declared on May 20, 1930.
