FAITHFUL AND TRUE
Oil and Gas
Nearly 100 years ago, local farmer Charlie Marren suspected the presence of oil in Lloydminster when he drew his cattle to water to drink, and they refused. Samples were drawn, sent away, and returned to confirm his suspicions – oil was present! The rest is history, and has helped build Lloydminster into what it is today. Despite the slowing and shift globally, Lloydminster’s oil and gas scene continues to be a source of full-time employment and production. Major players including Husky Energy (owner-operators of the Bi-Provincial Upgrader), Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL) and many small to medium-sized businesses are still major employers.
